The
sons of the Utah pioneers commissioned the
Pioneer Monument in Centerville City Utah in 1990.

The
Sons of the Utah Pioneers wanted a typical family
of the period to represent the hard work of the pioneers
as they worked the hard rocky soil. The little girl is holding
a hoe and her father holding an axe in his hand as the
mother stands by with a little babe in arms.

Dee
Jay Bawden worked on the model for one year.
The sons of the Utah Pioneers took copies of a scaled preliminary model
around to businesses in the area to
raise funds for the monument. After over one hundred of
them were sold work began on the actual monument.
The monument was erected and unveiled the following
year in 1991.
